Flygplan har störtat i Iran

Dåligt väder och dimma ska ha bidragit till att det iranska passagerarflygplanet störtade i nordvästra Iran, rapporterar AP.

Olyckan inträffade vid 16.15-tiden, lokal tid.

32 har räddats

Planet var på väg att landa i staden Urumiyeh, 70 mil från huvudstaden Teheran, när det kraschade i ett bergigt område.

Ombord på planet fanns runt 100 passagerare, rapporterar AP.

Planet bröts sönder i flera delar vid kraschen, men det fattade aldrig eld. Ett kraftigt snöfall ska ha försvårat räddningsarbetet. Inledningsvis rapporterade nyhetsbyråerna att 50 personer skulle ha överlevt. Men nya uppgifter gör gällande att 32 personer ska vara vid liv medan 70 personer ska ha omkommit, rapporterar AP.

Planet, en Boeing 727, tillhörde landets dominerande flygbolag, Iran Air.

Amerikanska sanktioner mot landet har förhindrat Iran från att köpa nya plan eller reservdelar från väst, rapporterar TT.

Enligt nyhetsbyrån har Iran en historia av flygkrascher. I juli 2009 störtade ett plan i nordvästra Iran och 168 personer omkom. I februari 2003 dödades 302 personer i en krasch i sydöstra Iran.
